Karolina Szlęzak

Genealogist, historian, archivist, book author, co-founder and owner of Your Roots in Poland.

A graduate of the Pedagogical University of Krakow – Master Degree in History, specialty in archival science and source editing. She began her adventure with genealogy while still studying and defending her master’s thesis representing the history of the noble family, the Spinek family of Bedków, Prus coat of arms. Genealogy is her profession, but also a passion that she has been pursuing continuously since 2011 leading and developing Your Roots in Poland.

For many years, she carried out genealogical searches for clients from around the world. The experience and knowledge gained in this way is used to improve the services offered, training subsequent employees and creating a development strategy for Your Roots in Poland. Personally manages proprietary and inheritance search projects. In addition, she administers and manages the company’s finances.

She is the author of texts published on our blog, as well as historical, scientific monographs. She edited and wrote one of the chapters of the book Dworek Białoprądnicki – History, people, culture, published in 2019. In the future, she would like to publish a genealogy guide for adults and children.

She is happy to share his knowledge by conducting workshops and lectures. She appeared at TEDxKrakówWomen, was a speaker at the RootsTech London 2019 conference, co-founded the 1st Krakow Genealogical Conference. As part of cooperation with American company – Trace regularly – during the world’s largest genealogy conference – RootsTech w Salt Lake City advises and helps people who want to discover their roots in Central and Eastern Europe.

From the beginning of her work, she has been motivating people to become interested in their family history. She is a co-founder and vice president of Stowarzyszenia Twoje Korzenie w Polsce, she has been teaching classes at genealogical seminars at the Jagiellonian University of the Third Age for three years. Her involvement in this field is also appreciated by the media, she appears in articles in the printed press, among others, Wysokich Obcasów, as well as a frequent guest of TV Morning shows, such as Dzień Dobry TVN or Pytanie na Śniadanie.

An important success in her professional career is the documentary genealogy show, where, together with Kinga Urbańska, presents the backstage of her daily work and colorful stories of people who decided to get to know who their ancestors were.

She spends his free time at home reading a book or watching a good movie. She likes cycling and kayaking. She enjoys working in the garden, singing and long walks in the beloved Świętokrzyskie Forest.
