What is Prima Aprilis?
Prima Aprilis is celebrated every year on 1 April by playing jokes and making fun of friends family and even complete strangers. The pranks and their victims are called April fools. People playing April Fool jokes expose their pranks by shouting April Fool. Although popular since the 19th century, the day is not a public holiday in any country.
How we celebrate it in Poland?
In Poland, Aprilis Fools’Day is a day in which many jokes are told, various hoaxes are prepared by people, media and even public institutions. Serious activities are usually avoided on that day. In Poland this conviction is so strong that in 1693 the government changed their decision to arrange the anti-Turkish alliance with Leopid I. It was pre-poned from April 1st to 31st of March as they thought on the Prima Aprilis things might take a different turn.
Though it may go by different name the traditions and the customs are followed the same as in other countries. It is a day full of jokes and fun for the people of Poland.
