
The cable-car trip to the Mount Kasprowy Wierch is a classic tourist attraction. At the end of the ascent you can get off and stand with one foot in Poland and the other in Slovakia. The view from the top is spectacular.

Kasprowy Wierch is a Mountain in Western Tatras. Its highest point is at 1,987 meters above see level.There are meteorological and astronomical observatories built there. It is also one of the most popular ski areas in Poland. Kasprowy Wierch is a major tourist destination thanks to the cable car. It was built in 1936 and was the first investment of this kind in Poland, and 60th in the world. The first cable cars were produced by Stocznia Gdańska and special ropes by factory from Sosnowiec. There were over 1000 workers hired, working 16 hours a day, through 7 months. All site works were finished until 29th February 1936. On 15 March 1936 first passengers were carried to the peak, after only 227 days since the beginning of the whole investment. All Cable Cars were replaced with new ones and the whole investment was modernized in 1961 and again in 2007.
Through 80 years over 40 millions of people from around the world have taken cable car to Kasprowy Wierch. Among them were Pope John Paul II. He took the trip to Kasprowy Wierch on 6th June 1997.
